Industrial Design

Time, or the passing of time, has always been represented in objects; from the tracing finger of light cast against a sunlit window to the slow degradation of a dropped ice-cream against the side-walk. Hikari commands an elegant aura of light that emulates a natural environment of sun and moonlight, representing both astronomical time within a space but also supplementing a user’s natural exposure to sunlight. A rotating glass lens refracts and directs light from the hanging sculpture; casting a solid beam of colour to indicate time of day.

A SAD lamp for everybody, Hikari allows anybody to enjoy the benefits of extended sunlight—balanced serotonin and melatonin levels, responsible for controlling hunger, mood and sleep, can all be damaged without sufficient access to sunlight.
